“That’s Modie!” I had taken the photo the first week here in Zambia. I noticed all the different footprints along the dirt road, walking the kids to school. Some shoeless and some with shoes mixed in with various tire tracks, bike tracks, and an eclectic collection of animal tracks. Going through the “snaps” on my phone, Kennedy told me that this particular footprint was Modie’s. It amazed me that he recognized his friend by a picture of a footprint in the dirt!
This experience reminded me of how our relationship with God should be! Kennedy can recognize his friend’s footprint when I don’t know that I could even recognize my own footprint, let alone someone else’s! It tells me that he has spent much time with his friend, walking down that long dirt road. This led me to ask myself, “Would I recognize God’s footprint?”.
God calls me ‘friend’. He knows everything about me, including the number of hairs on my head! I am so inspired by Kennedy, I admire that he values his friend so much that he has even watched where Modie was stepping, noticing the mark he has left in the earth. I want to take more notice of the mark left here by Jesus, my friend who gave His life for me! Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life…”If He is the Way, and I am following after Him, I need to be looking for His footprints on whatever road I’m on!
